Top 10 Smartphones of 2013 (10 – 6)

Smart Phones were HOT again in 2013 with demand on a steady climb. The market has been flooded with smart phones, with all the big players releasing their latest creation and current flagship device.  Each manufacturer trying to gain the attention of maximum consumers. Here is our list of the top 10 smartphones of 2013 counted down from 10 to 1. In this first installment we will cover phones ranked 10th through the 6th spot.

10. Nokia Lumia 1020

The latest Lumia is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor, on a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset. It has a 4.5 inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display, with a resolution of 768×1280 pixels, and a pixel density of 332 ppi. The display is protected by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 3. For its graphics, the phone has an Adreno 225 GPU. The USP of the phone is by far its imaging capabilities, with a massive 41 MP camera with a 1/1.5” sensor, and Nokia’s proprietary PureView technology. It also has a 1.2 MP camera for video calling. The phone is available with an internal storage of 32 GB, and 2 GB of RAM. It features Dolby Digital Plus audio enhancement, and draws power from a 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery. Probably the last major ‘Nokia’ phone to be produced by the Finnish giant, the Lumia 1020 packs in quite a punch.

9. HTC Butterfly S

Powered by a quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300, on a Qualcomm APQ8064T Snapdragon 600, the Butterfly S makes short work of even the most demanding of tasks. The phone is fitted with a 4 MP 1/3” sensor for superior low-light photography, and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera for video calling. The phone comes with 16 GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot for expansion. It has 2 GB of RAM to handle all operations with ease. It runs on Android OS v4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with HTC Sense UI v5 on top. The phone has a Full HD 5-inch Super LCD3 screen, with a mind-numbing pixel density of 441 ppi. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection for the screen. Graphics on the phone are powered by an Adreno 320 GPU. The Butterfly S also has Beats Audio sound enhancement for unmatched audio output. The phone has a 3200 mAh Li-Po battery to power it through the day. 8. Moto X

The first real Motorola phone with a Google touch, the Moto X is a truly beautiful device. The phone does not have a high-end spec sheet, but is still one of the most popular smartphones of 2013. Moto X comes with a dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait processor and a Qualcomm MSM8960Pro Snapdragon chipset. The phone has a 4.7 inch AMOLED display with 720p resolution (312 ppi pixel density). There is also Gorilla Glass to protect the display. The phone has an Adreno 320 GPU to render all the graphics. It features a 10 MP primary camera, and a 2 MP secondary camera for video calling. It is available in 16/32 GB versions, and has 2 GB of RAM. It has a 2200 mAh Li-Ion battery powering it. It runs on Android v 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and offers an almost unadulterated Android experience. Marketed as a true US-made phone, the USP of the phone is the high level of personalization that it offers.

7. BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry goes out with a bang with the Z10. The Canadian company has all but exited the handset business, but not without leaving us with a couple of really nice handsets. A dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor on a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon handles all the operations of the phone. The phone features a 4.2 inch TFT screen, with a maximum resolution of 768×1280 pixels, and a pixel density of 355 ppi. For its graphics, the phone relies on an Adreno 225 GPU. The phone features an 8 MP primary, and a 2 MP secondary camera. It has 16 GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD cards. The Z10 runs the all new BlackBerry 10 OS, and is upgradable to v10.1. An 1800 mAh Li-Ion battery keeps the phone ticking.

6. Samsung Galaxy Note 3

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 takes the legacy of the popular Note 2 forward, and is every bit cut out for the task. Powered by a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset (Quad-core 1.9 GHz Cortex-A15 & quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, and Exynos 5 Octa 5420 chipset on N9000), the Note 3 sure is a heavyweight. It also has a massive 3 GB of RAM. The Super AMOLED 5.7 inch Full HD display boasts of a pixel density of 386 ppi. Gorilla Glass 3 protects the display from scratches and major damage. Graphics on the phone are handled by the Adreno 330 GPU (Mali-T628 MP6 on N9000). The phone has a 13 MP rear camera which shoots at an incredible 4K resolution, and a 2 MP front-facing camera for video calling. It runs on the latest Android OS v4.3 (Jelly Bean), and has the latest TouchWiz UI. The Note 3 is available in 32/64 GB variants, and has a microSD slot to expand the storage space by a maximum of 64 GB.
